Event Details

The geology of Northern Arizona is impressive in its beauty and its power to inform us about the state's ancient past. Our illustrated lecture will take us back 1.7 billion years, to view Jerome's copper ores, then we will climb through the geologic strata of the Grand Canyon (550-250 millions of years old), and end, just a few million years ago, with the volcanic rocks of the Flagstaff area. Our tour will also include Monument Valley, the Petrified Forest, slot canyons, the red rocks of Sedona, and Hoover Dam and Lake Mead. No boots or water will be needed.

Ken B. Bork is a retired professor of geology. His Ph.D. is in geology, with specialization in paleontology. Courses taught included Earth History, Dinosaurs, Evolution, and various Honors Courses. Current research is devoted to the history of geology.

A resident of Sedona since 2013, he is actively interested in the geology of Sedona and Northern Arizona. Association with Yavapai College includes active involvement with OLLI in Sedona and Clarkdale.
