Prescott Valley Public Library will be hosting Health Talks: A Wellness and Prevention Series provided by Yavapai County Community Health Services. This month’s presentation is Getting Outdoors: Safe Hiking and Other Outdoor Activities for All Ages & Abilities. Please join us on Thursday, September 21st, 2023, where you will learn the latest research on how outdoor activities benefit the brain and the body, tips for outdoor beginners or those looking to deepen or diversify their outdoor activities, and the importance of outdoor access for all communities. After this presentation, you will know how to prepare for and ensure safety while outdoors, how you are benefiting from that time outdoors, and multiple activities that increase those benefits for you. This presentation is for anyone who wants to enjoy the great outdoors more or is hesitant about where to start.
Ellen Bashor is the Outdoor Learning Coordinator for Prescott Unified School District and the City of Prescott where she oversees multiple initiatives to increase access to healthy & educational outdoor experiences, including PUSD Outdoors, Nature Niños Prescott, and the city's Community Nature Center. Ellen holds both Bachelors and Masters degrees in Environmental/Outdoor Education and was previously a professor of Environmental Education at Prescott College. Ellen is the president of the Arizona Association for Environmental Education, serves on the Greater Prescott Outdoors Fund board, and oversees Prescott's annual children's Earth Day Celebration and Junior Ranger program. Ellen's career and service work is deeply embedded in her commitment to increasing access to the outdoors, environmental learning, and opportunities that cultivate a more healthy, just, and sustainable world for all.
