Set in London during the late years of World War II, How I Became a Spy by Deborah Hopkinson follows young Bertie as he starts working as a civilian defense volunteer and stumbles into an international mystery. Bertie meets Eleanor, a young American girl, and becomes embroiled in a mystery worthy of Sherlock Holmes surrounding an abandoned journal full of coded passages. Does the journal really belong to a spy? Is this the key to winning the war? Bertie and his friends are determined to find out! For youth, grades 5-6. Register online, at the Youth Desk, or call 928.777.1537. All registered members will receive a personal copy of each month's book. Note: If your family registers more than one child for this book club, you will receive just one copy of the book. This will make the program available to more children.
