How it will work

Calling all designers, creators, and recycling enthusiasts! It’s time to register for the Recycled Fashion Show. Registration deadline is 11 PM, Tuesday, April 21, 2026. This year, contestants will show off their fashion designs during a live in-person show at the library auditorium on Friday, April 24, 2026, from 5:15 - 7 PM. Tweens, Teens, and Adults can participate in this year’s event. The Fashion Show will be divided into two groups:
Ages 10-17
Ages 18+
The theme: Time Traveler’s Ball: Fashion Through Time

Supplies & Materials

There are many places where you can gather materials and supplies. Here are some ideas for places to gather materials: Stepping Stones Thrift Store or other local thrift shops, yard sales, recycling bins, your closet, and family or friends' unwanted clothing (please get permission first before you start cutting up yours or other people's clothing!). The library will not provide materials.

Create Your Design

Materials and supplies used to create your fashion design must consist of at least 75% post-consumer used materials. When using recyclable materials, be sure they are clean and safe to reuse. For re-purposed fabric and old clothing, the new garments must be distinctly different than the originally used items. For example, the fabric of a used shirt can be repurposed to create a new garment element, such as a skirt. All garments must be secure and durable. In addition, your design must maintain the Time Traveler theme. Use your imagination! Fashion through time by creating a design connected to the past, present, or imagined future. It’s also important to recognize that this is a library event. Keep your design appropriate. Overall, have fun and show off your creativity!

The Fashion Show

Participants may choose to be the model for their design or arrange to have someone else serve as their model. In addition to the design submission, the participant is responsible for providing a brief personal introduction, the title of their project (if any), and a description of their design. The project description can include information such as where the materials used were sourced, the process of creating the design, favorite part(s) of the design, or specific challenges encountered during creation. Any other aspects of the process you would like to share are also welcome. You can speak for yourself, or you can choose to have the host read the submitted information. Please email this introduction to teenlibrary@prescottvalley-az.gov by Wednesday, April 22, 2026.

Judges and Prizes

The judges will evaluate each contestant's submission based on the originality of material use, the quality of construction, the functionality of the design, and the overall aesthetic or theme of the design. A panel of three judges decides our top 3 winners for each age group. In addition, they may choose some "Honorable Mention" designs for specifically appealing features. All judges' decisions are final. The winners receive a prize (to be announced at the event).

Fashion Show Live Audience

Are you interested in being an audience member? Join us at the library fashion event of the season! Show the designers your support and cheer them on! Registration is not required for audience members, and the audience is open to all ages. Time Traveler's Ball-themed snacks will be served while the judges count the participants' scores.
