Program Description

Event Details

People have used the stars and constellations for many reasons to prepare for what are some things coming up for each season, for example: hunting, whether it will be a dry or wet season, what kind of climate, people will be expecting, and so on. Please join James Jones as he shares the Navajo perspective of the night sky. James Jones was born and raised on the Navajo reservation. He attended Rock Point Community School during the time it was a bilingual school from kindergarten to high school.  All subjects were taught in both the English and Navajo language.  The school also had local community elders come into the classroom and taught students about cultural lessons. He holds degrees in elementary and bi lingual education and currently teaches the Navajo language and culture at Singua Middle School. Star Talks are held in partnership with and arranged by Prescott Astronomy Club.
