How it will work

It’s time to register for the Teen Recycled fashion show. Registration deadline is 11 PM, Tuesday, March 19, 2024. This year, contestants will show off their fashion designs during a live in-person show at the library auditorium on Friday, March 22, 2024, from 7-8:30 PM. The event will follow the Youth Art Month Student Showcase Reception. Tweens and Teens between the ages of 10-18 can participate in this year’s event. The theme: Dreams & Nightmares.

Supplies & Materials

There are many places where you can gather materials and supplies. Here are some ideas of possible places to gather materials: Stepping Stones Thrift Store or other local thrift shops, yard sales, recycling bin, your closet, and family or friends' unwanted clothing (Please get permission first before you start cutting up yours or other people's clothing!). The library will not provide materials.

Create Your Design

Materials and supplies used to create your fashion design must consist of at least 75% post-consumer used materials. When using recyclable materials, be sure they are clean and safe to reuse. For re-purposed fabric and old clothing, the new garments must be distinctly different than the originally used items. For example, the fabric of a used shirt can be re-purposed to create a new type of garment element other than a shirt. All garments must be secure and durable in construction. In addition, your design must keep the dreams and nightmares theme in mind. Use your imagination! Do you want to enter a dreamlike portal or a frightening nightmare? It’s also important to recognize that this is a library event. Keep your design appropriate. Overall, have fun and show off your creativity!

The Fashion Show

Participants may choose to be the model of their design, or they can arrange to have someone else be their model. If the designer chooses someone else to be their model, that model must also be between the ages of 10-18. In addition to the design submission, the participant is responsible for providing a brief personal introduction, title (if any) of their project, and description of their design. The project description can include information such as where the materials used were sourced from, the process of creating the design, favorite part(s) of the design, or specific challenges in the creation process. Any other aspects of the process you would like to share are also welcome. You can speak for yourself, or you can choose to have the host read the submitted information. Please email this introduction to youngadult@prescottvalley-az.gov by Wednesday, March 20, 2024.

Judges and Prizes

The judges will judge each contestant's submission based on the originality of the use of materials, the quality of construction, the function of the design, and the general aesthetic or theme of the design creation. A panel of two to three judges decides our top 3 winners. In addition, they may choose some "Honorable Mention" designs for specifically appealing features. All judges' decisions are final. The winners receive a prize (announced closer to the event).
