Program Description

Event Details

The Yavapai County Free Library District will be hosting writer in residence, Lana Buckner, at our Clark Memorial Library location from July 3 through September 28, 2024.

Zines II is the second of a series of special Writer in Residence workshops by Lana Buckner from July through September 2024.

No sweat if you missed Zines I. Zines II will cover a variety of simple ways to make a booklet, from paper-cutting and folding techniques to stitch binding. We will also explore pop-ups, pull tabs, and other interactive book designs.

These skills can be used to make a unique zine, journal, or card!

Office hours following the workshop will give participants additional time to access materials or work with the instructor.

This workshop is suited for teens and adults. Check the calendar for kids’ workshops on August 17 & 24!

Future Writer in Residence Workshops:

August 17 | 12:30 – 1:30: Little Book of Monsters! (Children ages 6-10)

Summer 2024 Writer in Residence - Lana Buckner

Lana is a multidisciplinary artist, experienced workshop leader, and lifelong storyteller. She has worked as a content writer, freelance editor, and tutor. Based out of her studio at the Old Jerome High School, Lana is actively engaged in the Verde Valley artistic community: she is a member of Reitz Ranch Center for Ceramic Education in Clarkdale and an LLC member of the Jerome Artists’ Cooperative Gallery. You can find her illustration-adorned ceramics at the JAC Gallery where she also serves on the Publishing Committee.

Lana’s consultation hours will be available for writers who need help with editing, finessing, or finding their way through writers’ block. She is also keen to help students with college applications, essays, or any writing-related homework.

Lana will be utilizing this residency to create long-form comics—come by the office hours or participate in one of her workshops if you’re interested in the process of visual narrative!
