Event Details

Prescott Valley Public Library is hosting in person program, Backyard Poultry Basics on Thursday, June 8th, 2023, from 5:00-6:30 pm. Come visit the Prescott Valley Library to learn the basics about getting started with chickens. Learn about raising chickens, proper housing, basic biosecurity for the flock and to ensure safe eggs to consume.

The program will be presented by Ashley, a Livestock Area Agent with the University of Arizona Cooperative Extension. Ashley will be on hand to answer your questions about owning backyard chickens.

Based in Willcox, Ashley’s territory covers much of Southeastern Arizona where she provides educational programming for livestock producers, including horse owners and backyard chicken producers. Ashley grew up in Del Norte County, California, a rural county in the far northwest corner of the state. In 2006, she moved to Arizona and received a Bachelor of Veterinary Science (2010), and a Master of Animal Science (2014), both from the University of Arizona. While much of her current work focuses on beef cattle, especially cow-calf operations, she keeps a small flock of laying hens at home and enjoys educating people on how to keep their chickens healthy.

No registration required.
