Event Details

The Yavapai County Free Library District will be hosting writer in residence, Zarah Sandall, at our Dewey-Humboldt Town Library location from September 4 through November 27, 2024. 

Workshop I: Character and Plot is the first in a six-part creative writing workshop series offered by local author Zarah Sandall.​​​​ This workshop will show you how to find the perfect plot for your character, the one that will help them through their journey and learn their theme. 

Future Writer in Residence Workshops:

  • Workshop II: Character and Environment (September 23, 2024)
    Delve into the importance of setting in your story. Discover how the environment influences your characters and drives the narrative forward.

  • Workshop III: Protagonist and Antagonist (October 10, 2024)
    Every hero has a nemesis, every protagonist has an antagonist. This workshop explores the dynamic relationship between protagonists and antagonists, and how it shapes your protagonist's journey.

  • Workshop IV: Pacing (October 24, 2024)
    Master the art of pacing. From paragraphs to chapters, learn how to control the rhythm of your story to evoke emotion and maintain reader engagement from beginning to end.

  • Workshop V: Dialogue (November 7, 2024)
    Learn to write realistic, impactful dialogue. This workshop focuses on how to reveal character through conversation, making your dialogue both informative and authentic.

  • Workshop VI: The Essence of Storytelling (November 21, 2024)
    Explore the fundamentals of storytelling. Understand why we tell stories, what makes them compelling, and how to craft tales that leave a lasting impression.

Fall 2024 Writer in Residence - ZARAH SANDALL

Zarah is a proud Indie author sharing her love for sci-fi, dystopian, and post-apocalyptic fiction with the world. She can be found online sharing writing and dialogue prompts, inner monologues, and relatable peeks into author life. When she's not lost in her own personal war of the words, she can be found chilling with her family or practicing her archery for the zombie apocalypse. You know, just in case…
