Financial Literacy for Tweens (Ages 9-12)

Prescott Valley Public Library will be offering six workshops on financial literacy and basic money management skills geared towards kids ages 9-12 in collaboration with Desert Financial Credit Union.

*Please note that these are stand-alone workshops and they do not build on each other so registrants can attend any sessions of interest.

Through hands-on activities, educational videos, and real-world examples, participants will explore key financial concepts like spending wisely, saving for goals, giving thoughtfully, earning income, growing money through investing, and borrowing responsibly.

Each session encourages kids to think critically about their choices, set personal goals, and develop healthy money habits that last a lifetime. Whether they’re learning how to budget their allowance, start a small business idea, or understand how banks work, tweens will gain practical skills to make smart financial decisions now and in the future.

Perfect for curious minds ready to take their first steps toward financial independence!  Come ready to ask questions and speak to professionals about leveling up your money management skills!

Session 2: Saving for Goals

Dream it, plan it, save for it! Explore how to set savings goals, track progress, and see how small amounts can grow into big rewards over time.  Participants will be able to understand why saving is important and how it builds financial security, be able to set a personal savings goal and plan steps to achieve it, learn how to divide money between spending, saving, and giving, and recognize how regular saving helps reach short-term and long-term goals.
