December STEAM Lab: Grow Your Own Crystals – Snowflake Science
Get ready for a winter wonder of science! In this hands-on lab, participants will create sparkling snowflake ornaments while learning the science behind crystal formation. Using everyday materials like pipe cleaners, Borax, and water, kids will set up their own crystal-growing experiment and watch as beautiful “snowflakes” form overnight.
Along the way, we’ll explore solutions, supersaturation, and states of matter, discovering how molecules come together to create crystals, just like real snowflakes in nature! It’s a magical mix of science and creativity, perfect for the season.
This STEAM Lab at the Prescott Valley Public Library, in partnership with Yavapai Exploration and Science, is designed for youth ages 5-12 and encourages curiosity, creativity, and critical thinking, plus, everyone leaves with their own sparkling science project to take home!
